V. H. (Virgil) Ostteen

Funeral services for V. H.(Virgil) Ostteen age 88 of Columbia will be held 10 AM Monday January 7, 2013 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Harriman officiating. Interment will follow in the Burroughs Garden of Memories, east of Columbia. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Riser Funeral Home from 5pm until 8pm. Virgil Homer Ostteen was born April 1, 1924 to the union of his parents Walter Lee Ostteen, Sr. and Emma Denise Etier Ostteen. He passed from this life on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia, and a member of the Columbia Eastside Water System Board, the Columbia Eastside Fire Board, and a longtime employee of T. L. James Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Walter Lee Ostteen, Sr, T.J. Ostteen, Claude Ostteen, Dit Thomas, and Hester Mills. He also was preceded by his grandson Luke Scroggs , his great niece Sandra McKinnie and his niece Mary Hester Wilson. Survivors include, his beloved wife, Catherine Mullins Ostteen, of Columbia; his daughter, Betty Scroggs and her husband Buddy, of Columbia; his brother, J.V. Ostteen, of Monroe; his grandchildren, Jennifer Strickland, Dewaine ( Dana ) Brewer, and six step-grandchildren; his great-grandchildren, Meagon, Judson, and Lucas; eleven great step-grandchildren; and two great-great step grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include John Austin, Max Scroggs, Eddie Scroggs, Monty Adams, Jr, Allen Brown, and Denious Jacobson. Honorary pallbearers include Jackie Barrett, The Salt Group Sunday School Class, and the late Israel Guerrero. In lieu of flowers any planned memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church , Columbia, LA Building Fund
