Funeral services for Mr. Welch Lively, Sr., age 97 of Columbia, will be held 2PM Sunday, October 4, 2009 from the Columbia Chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Duke officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson. The Lively Family will receive guests on Saturday evening from 5PM to 9PM at the funeral home. Mr. Lively was born November 20, 1911 in Columbia to the union of Moses Walker and Ethel Mae Hudson Lively and passed away October 1, 2009 at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia following an extended illness. Welch Lively was a member of Sandy Bayou Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II and served during the Rhineland and European Campaigns. He was a Range Rider in the 1920's and early 1930's. He retired from the LA Wildlife and Fisheries as a Management Area Supervisor and served in that capacity for thirty-three years. He was the original area Supervisor over the Old Caldwell Refuge from the 1940's to 1970's also Russell Sage and Ouachita Wildlife Management Areas until 1975. He was instrumental in bringing deer from Wisconsin in the early 1950's to the Caldwell refuge. He also trapped native turkeys in Tensas Parish and relocated them to Caldwell Parish. He was a farmer, horse and cattleman, hunter and fisherman who lived his entire life exactly as he wanted. He was preceded in death by his lifelong love and wife, Erpha E. Harvey Lively, his parents and by his only sister, Modie Mae Lively Harvey. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Ethel E. Lively, son, Welch "Pete" Lively, Jr. and wife Margaret all of Columbia, four grandchildren: Danny Lively and wife, Carla of Crowville, Tommy Lively and wife, Linda of Eros, Phyllis Ballard and husband, Roger of Columbia and Scott Lively and wife, Cheryl of Columbia, ten great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include: Ben Lively, T.J. Lively, Brandon Lively, Colt Lively, Ryan Ballard, Shannon Varnell, Blake Wheeler and Jeremy Hair.
