Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Rickmond Duckett, Sr. age 87 of Columbia, will be 2PM Tuesday, November 3, 2009 from the sanctuary of Columbia Church of Christ in Columbia with Bro. Sam Sidders officiating and Bob McIlwain delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at Columbia Hill Cemetery in Columbia. Mr. Duckett was born in Columbia on June 18, 1922 to the union of Rickmond and Margaret Fluitt Duckett and passed away on November 1, 2009 at his residence. He was a member of Columbia Church of Christ. He was a former employee of Gartman Motor Company and Ward Chevrolet Olds and was self-employed for 20 years. He enjoyed many hobbies including gunsmithing, hunting, gardening and raising beagles. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife; Nora Lee McMillan Duckett, second wife; June Smith Duckett and two brothers: Aubrey Duckett and Earl Duckett. Survivors include four sons: Doug Smith of Columbia, Rick Duckett and wife, Jennifer of Grayson, Bryan Smith and wife, Cathy of Texarkana,TX and Marlon Duckett and wife, Linda of Alamogordo, NM, two sisters: Roberta Rowland of Columbia and Ouida Keenan of Columbia, three sisters-in-law: Mildred Herrington and husband, Ray of Vicksburg, MS, Helen Duckett of Monroe and Sarah Duckett of WestMonroe, five grandchildren: Christopher Trujillo, Lee Duckett, Joseph Duckett, Caitlyn Smith and Ariel Smith and great-granddaughter; Angel Trujillo. A host of nieces and nephews and his church family at Columbia Church of Christ. Pallbearers will be Nick Rowland, Hank Rowland, Earl Rowland, Drew Keahey, Jim Bob McIlwain, John McIlwain, Jerry Strickland and Gerry McIlwain. Honorary pallbearers will be Alton Oser, James Howell and John Wilkes.
