Shirley Fay Langley Thurman, age 86, was born December 27, 1937, in Fort Necessity, Louisiana to Claude W. Langley and Durelle Jewell Langley Gary. She entered into rest on December 2, 2024, in West Monroe, La.
She was married to Adolph Tarver for 24 years and had her two children, Gary and Peggy. She married Paul Thurman in 1989 and gained two stepsons that she loved like her own. Family was so important to Shirley, spending time together with them meant so much to her. She retired from ULM in accounting and manager of SACS office. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, hunting, and fishing.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother; her son Gary Tarver; and brother Bill Langley.
She is survived by her husband Paul Thurman; daughter Peggy Kelly and husband Al; step-sons Paul A. Thurman, Brian Thurman and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Eric, Alise and Charles Tarver, Brandy Warden and husband Brad, DeWayne Warner, Seth, and Samuel Thurman; great-grandchildren Tanner Warden, Will Warner; and sister Claudelle Volentine, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, La. on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11am. A visitation will be at 10am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Columbia Hill Cemetery in Columbia.
Pallbearers will be Al Kelly, Dave Thurman, Samuel Thurman, Seth Thurman, DeWayne Warner, and Brad Warden..
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to First Baptist Church of Homer, 406 W. Main St, Homer, LA 71040.
