Funeral services for Ruth Alleyne Morris Riser, who passed away on July 28, 2023 at the age of 101, will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Rev. Jack McKeithen, and the interment will follow in the Old Bethel Cemetery at Clarks. Prior to the service, visitation will be hosted by the Riser Family on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Ruth Alleyne Morris Riser was born on September 9, 1921, in Clarks, Louisiana, to Artie Winford Morris and Ruth Gammill Morris. She was known for her extensive work with 4-H Club leadership, hosting small 4-H groups at her home and teaching various skills. Later, she continued her involvement with 4-H as an employee of the Louisiana Extension Service. She was also a member and officer of the local homemakers club.
Ruth had a passion for hand quilting and spent many hours crafting beautiful quilts. She assisted many students at Grayson Elementary while working in the school library.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Verna W. Riser, sons Verna W. Riser, Jr. and Wayne Riser, daughters Helen Riser Smith and Susan Riser, brothers Artie Ray Morris, Reed A. Morris, Clyde C. Morris, Myrle R. Morris, and sister Lucille Morris Claunch.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons James (Jim) Riser (Janice) of Stonewall, Mississippi, Rodger Riser (Deb) of Starkville, Mississippi, daughter Neva Riser Zobb (Jim) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, daughter-in-law Mary Gatliff Riser of San Saba, Texas, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The pallbearers will be Jerry Duff, Jon Duff, Jared Duff, Scott Smith, Tony Morris, Clay Riser, Matthew Burkhart, and Eugene Dunn.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeffrey Duff, Jamie Duff, Wayne Riser, and Adam Riser.
The Riser family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Haven Nursing Home and Ascend Hospice Care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grayson Baptist Church.
