Ralph R. Harris

Ralph R. Harris, age 76 and a lifetime resident of Urania, Louisiana, passed from this life after a long hard-fought battle with cancer on January 26, 2025. He was born September 25, 1948, to his parents, Carl W. “Dooley” and AnnieBelle “Bill” Harris. Ralph worked as an electrician at Urania Lumber Company then continued to Georgia Pacific and Louisiana Pacific. After his time with the lumber companies, he continued his work as an electrician offshore until his retirement. After a short retirement he decided he wasn’t quite ready for retired life and went to work for Loe Oil Co. as a pumper until he eventually retired for good. In his younger days he enjoyed duck hunting and fishing with the boys. Some of his favorite pastimes included spending endless hours in the yard where he could make anything grow, he enjoyed geocaching with Boog, and he enjoyed riding and looking, whether in LaSalle Parish or the Badlands. He also loved music. Since having great-grandchildren, some of his greatest joys have come from a cookout on the back porch, watching babies play, and spending time with family. His love of sharing his history knowledge will be missed by all of the local communities. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. “Dooley” Harris and AnnieBelle Harris, and his sister, Margaret Harris Franklin.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of 57 years, Sandy Harris of Urania, LA; son, Brent Harris and wife, Randi of Tullos, LA; grandchildren: Trenton Harris, Marli Rae Oehler (Shawn), Joci Harris, and Kassidi Smart (Jacob); great-grandchildren: Karsyn Rose Oehler, Kayce Ray Oehler, and Karter Vollm; and brother, Ikey Harris (Marlene) of Urania. He also leaves behind loving nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends to cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Riser Funeral Home in Olla, Louisiana with Rev. Bobby Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Urania Cemetery. Friends may visit with family at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday, from 11:00 AM until the service begins at 1:00 PM.

Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Ray Ruddell, Trenton Harris, Shawn Oehler, Jacob Smart, Kevin Daugherty, and Shelby Loe. Honorary pallbearers are Kent Ruddell, Harry Loomis, and Jerrod Douglas.
