Oliver Rusty Smith

Oliver Rusty Smith, age 51 of Columbia, was born on August 31, 1969 at Algiers, LA to the union of his parents, Benjamin Harrison Smith and Connie Sue Duke. He passed from this life on July 19, 2021 at his residence following an extended illness. Rusty was preceded in death by his father. He was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church and enjoyed attending church until his health would not allow him to attend. Rusty was born with the gift of gab and loved to talk with those around him and loved to make jokes. He worked offshore and on the pipeline in his younger days. He was a wonderful dad, son, and brother. He was loved by those around him and will be missed greatly.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Zachary Smith of Columbia; his beloved mother, Connie Sue Duke of Columbia; his sister, Tammy Johnston (Bryan) of Columbia; and his brother, Donnie Ponder (Melinda) also of Columbia.

Celebration of life and memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday July 24, 2021 from the sanctuary of Bellview Baptist Church, Columbia with Bro. Mark Dannehl officiating. The Smith family will receive visitors on Saturday as well from 1:00 PM until time of service at the church.
