Funeral Services for Myrtis Poole Wilks will be Sunday, May 8, 2022, at Columbia Heights Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Bro. Bruce McGee officiating and Bro. Warren Maxwell reading the eulogy. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery, hebert under the direction of Riser Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Columbia Heights Baptist Church from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Myrtis Clarice Poole Wilks was born on November 6, 1929, and passed over to Glory on May 5, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
One of twelve children, “Tiny” was born to Hardy Poole and Nora Boyd Poole in Hebert, LA.
Preceded in death by siblings: Vernon “Bunk” Poole, Raymond Poole, John Hardy Poole, Truman Poole, Willard Poole, Willie Hester “Sis” Heflin, Josephine Howard, and Grace Herrington.
Survived by siblings Billy Poole, Patsy Graves, and brother in law James Wilks.
Married to John R. Wilks for 70 years, he passed to Glory on May 3, 2019. Together they shared a beautiful life with their four children who cherished them beyond measure. They are Duane Wilks (Mitzi), Sheri Rabb, Johnette Wilks, and Micki Wilks.
Left also to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Leslie Compton, Angel Darden, Ashly Roberts, Kaci Wilks, Christian Wilks, Laura Nash, Cash Rabb, Nolan Rabb, Amber Hightower, Heather Hightower, Bobby Mercer, Johnathan Wilks, and Ashlyn Brittain; 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Many children, young and old, came through their doors and were “adopted “ by Myrt and John. Their home and hearts were always open. Holidays around the Wilks’ home were a loud family affair where anyone and everyone was welcome.
The Matriarch of a loving family, we are blessed to have had such a praying and God-fearing woman to lead us. To know her was a blessing. She will be missed by many.
Pallbearers will be Cash Rabb, Bobby Mercer, Alex Neathery, Grant Roberts, Kaleb Ash, Garet Darden, Julian Roberts, and Christian Wilks.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnathan Wilks, Nolan Rabb, Tyler Malcomb, Drake Darden, Draven Mercer, Jett Roberts, and Sydney Mack.
