Riser Funeral Home Columbia, LA Funeral services for Merrell Delane McGuffee, 87 of Columbia, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 17, 2016 from the sanctuary of Sandy Bayou Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Russell and Bro. Sammy Redden officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosefield Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the Sandy Bayou Baptist Church from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Mr. McGuffee was born on June 13,1929 in Caldwell Parish to the union of his parents, Shellie Albert McGuffee and Eathel Frances Horn McGuffee and he passed from this life on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Ouachita Healthcare and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. Mr. McGuffee served in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean War. He was a farmer most of his life and was a member of the Sandy Bayou Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a friend to all and will be sorely missed but never forgotten. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Herbert Gathright; son-in-law, Tommy Lee Beckley; nephew, David Hughes and grandson, Phillip Allen Powell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years and 11 months, Betty Lee Johnson McGuffee of Columbia; daughter, Delanea Louise Beckley of Columbia; daughter, Anita Kay Powell and husband, Phillip of Sterlington; son,Glendon Lee McGuffee and wife, Ellie of West Monroe; son, Leland Merrell McGuffee of Columbia; granddaughter, Andrea Dailey and husband, Stuart of Sterlington; grandson, Tyler Merrell Powell of Kerrville, Texas; granddaughter-in-law, Shannon Powell of Sterlington; great-grandchildren: Taylor Lee Scribner and Drake Scot Dailey of Sterlington; brother, Doyce McGuffee and wife, Linda of Chatham; sister, Gloria Fuqua and husband, Don of Baker and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and his special pet dog “Pretty Boy”. Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Powell, Tyler Powell, Stuart Dailey, Taylor Scribner, Kevin Gathright and Todd McGuffee.
