Funeral services for Melba Joyce Swett will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 2, 2021 at the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home, Columbia, LA with Bro. Shane Duke officiating. Interment will follow at Hebert Cemetery, Hebert, LA. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 5 PM until 8 PM.
Melba Joyce Stapleton Swett was born August 26, 1938 in Caldwell Parish to the union of her parents, Willie Stapleton and Nolia Calhoun Stapleton, and she passed from this life to her heavenly home on March 26, 2021 at her home in Hebert. Prior to retiring, Joyce worked for many years at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She loved her job and was a devoted employee. She was an avid sports fan. She never missed a Saints game and she especially enjoyed watching basketball. Joyce enjoyed reading, cooking and working in her yard when she was able. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. Her absence will leave a hole in the hearts of her many family members. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mickey Swett; sister, Dorothy Finley; and best friend, Lynette Maxwell.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons: James "Squeaky" Swett, Jr. and Duane Swett (Tammy); brothers: Cheslie Stapleton, Robert Stapleton (Gay), Gerry Stapleton (Linda), Billy Stapleton (Laverne), Danny Stapleton (Becky), Jimbo Stapleton, and Bobby Gene Stapleton (Janette); sisters: Judy Ross (Gene) and Carol Hogg (Gary); grandchildren: Shane Carpenter (Sativa), Bobby Swett (Chelsea), Michael Hogg (Brittany), John Paul Swett, Michael Swett (Jasmine), Josh Hogg (Elizabeth) and Megan Howard (Callie); great-grandchildren: MaKayla, McKenzie, Matthew, Kade, Kole, Maddie, Ryan (Donna), Brandon, and Tucker; and dear friends: Faye Sims and Sue Williams. The family would like to extend special thanks to Michelle Kelly and Glenda Moreno.
Serving as pallbearers will be Shane Carpenter, Bobby Swett, Michael Hogg, John Paul Swett, Michael Swett and Josh Hogg. Honorary pallbearers are Callie Howard, Kade Swett and Kole Swett.
