Mrs. Maria Herbst Franklin, age 85, of Columbia, Louisiana, was born on January 21, 1938, in Litzendorf, Bamberg, Germany, and went to meet her Lord and Savior on May 31, 2023 , at her home in Columbia, Louisiana.

Maria met the love of her life , Wavle Bruce Franklin, who she married while he was stationed at the U. S . Army Base in Bamberg, Germany, She came to the United States with her husband and two daughters in 1962. One of her proudest moments was when she received her Certificate of Naturalization to become a U S Citizen in 1970. She spent her life taking care of her family and helping others. She really enjoyed being outside in her garden and working in her yard growing many beautiful flowers. She also loved to sew and do crocheting.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband: Walve Bruce Franklin, Parents: Margaret Lauer Herbst and Georg Herbst, brother: Hanriech Herbst and son-in-law: Jerry Broadway.

Those left to cherish her memory are his daughters: Sylvia Broadway, Susie Richard and husband Dan. Brothers: Hans Herbst, Valentin Herbst, sister: Erika Uzelino, grandchildren: Sabrina Ross (James), Jonathon Broadway, Chris Richard and Alison Richard, great grandchildren: Hannah Pese, Jaydon Ross, Cameron Ross, Tyler Broadway, Blake Broadway, Maddilynn Broadway and a great great grand child, Kahlan Pese.

Honoring Maria's wishes, she requested her family to have her cremated and her ashes buried by her husband at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Riser & Son Funeral Home of Columbia.
