Mrs. Margie was born in Grayson on December 6, 1924 to the union of John Henry and Alice Whittington Nelson, and died Saturday, June 10, 2023 at home after a long and blessed life. She was well-known for her green thumb, quilting skills, cooking, strength, inner and outer beauty, and sharp mind right up to her passing. She and her husband had big green houses and sold the most healthy and beautiful plants, and after his passing, Margie scaled down to become the “Geranium Lady” with the help of family, especially during the planting season, until she was 88 years old. People from all over loved her plants, and they loved Mrs. Margie. Then in her “old age,” she started hand quilting quilts to sell, and continued with her daughter until only a few months ago. She could work circles around the young folks, and it was amazing how strong she was right up until her last days. She was an awesome homemaker and cook, and well known for her buttermilk biscuits and cornbread, and also her cornbread dressing. Her kids always knew they could get fed if they stopped by for a visit. She raised a garden for vegetables and blueberries for homemade jelly. She loved her family and friends, and will be remembered for answering, “Oh! I’m very well,” when asked how she was doing. As someone recently put it, “She was a precious soul.”
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Millard Lowe; son Damon Lowe; grandson Tommy Lowe; grand daughter Robin Lowe; and brothers Marshal Nelson and Clifton Nelson; and sister Zelma Hightower.
Survivors include her son Darrell Lowe and wife Gail; son Dwayne Lowe and wife Ann; and daughters Mackey Cassels, Wanda Lowe, and Dianne Ezell. She is also survived by grandchildren Randel Cassels, Gary Cassels, Marilyn Duke, Sherman Cassels, Brad Lowe, Sonya Robinson, Wes Lowe, Dana Conrad, Todd Pearson, Ashley Balsamo, Christy Lowe, Jessica Lowe, Benny Ezell, and Meranda Ezell; many in-laws that she loved as her own, and a host of great and great, great grandchildren.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers including Sherman Cassels, Todd Pearson, Brad Lowe, Caleb Duke, Chandler Conrad, Wes Lowe, Dylan Mc Guffee and Chase Cassels. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeff Conrad.
