Landry Bernard Crain was born April 1, 1940 in Columbia, Louisiana to the union of his parents, Lavelle Aubrey Crain and Maisie Jenkins Crain and passed from this life December 23, 2024 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Growing up, Landry enjoyed playing basketball. He always wanted to play baseball but never got the opportunity. His love for sports was evident as he coached his son, grandchildren, and hundreds of Caldwell Parish's youth in various sports including baseball, basketball, and football for years. Some of his other favorite pastimes included watching LSU football and baseball, listening to bluegrass music, sitting on the front porch watching the hummingbirds with his beloved wife, watching The Andy Griffith Show, and swapping stories with friends and family. Landry worked as a locomotive engineer for Union Pacific Railroad for forty-four years, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. His solid work ethic and desire to provide for his family was impressive and admirable. He started at eighteen years old, with no vehicle, so he had to hitchhike from Columbia to Alexandria to work, sometimes in the cold and rain with no coat.
Landry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel Crain; daughter, Carol Crain; son, Mark Crain; brother, David Crain; and sister, Cassie Lloyd. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Toni Crain Guerrero; brother, Dale Crain (Jean); sisters, Mary Taylor (Bill), and Chyrl Adkins (Larry); grandchildren, Chad Guerrero (Kacie), Whitney Keahey (Drew), Ashley Nettles (JD), Michael Crain (Lanessa), Dustin Crain (Brooke), Valerie Calhoun (Heath); great-grandchildren, Lawson Guerrero, Landry Guerrero, Case Nettles, River Nettles, Jeremiah Moradi, John David Moradi, Michaela Crain, Nevaeh Crain, Adelynn Crain, William Calhoun, and Andrew Calhoun.
Pallbearers include Chad Guerrero, Lawson Guerrero, Drew Keahey, Michael Crain, Dustin Crain, Heath Calhoun, Brad Crain, Kyle Crain and Bo Russell. Honorary pallbearers are Dale Crain, Bill Taylor, Rick West, Johnny Byrd, John Reitzell, and Russell Price.
