Funeral services for Kenneth Ray "Buddy" Slay, age 72 of Olla, will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, June 2, 2010, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with Rev. Brian Rankin officiating. Interment will follow at Olla Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening at the Olla funeral home from 5 PM to 8 PM. Mr. Slay was born in LaSalle Parish on June 20, 1937 to the union of Walter Leo and Myrtle Sharpling Slay and was received into Heaven on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at his residence in Olla after a brave battle with bladder cancer. Buddy worked most of his life as a truck driver for Gulf Oil and Chevron in Opelousas, LA for 21 years before taking early retirement to reside in Olla. He drove pulpwood trucks, before ending his driving career with Holloway Sportswear. He was a loving and devoted husband, daddy, papaw and brother that enjoyed the outdoors. He spent many summers with his family bailing hay and clearing land, as well as, working on his farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son; John D. Slay and his brother; Harold "Sonny" Slay. Survivors include his wife of 51 years; Lucille Grivette Slay, son; Mark Slay and his wife, Barbara of New Iberia, two daughters: Cynthia Slay of Olla and Melissa Slay Nagler and husband, Tom of Olla, three grandchildren: Thomas Nagler, Heather Nagler and Bradley Nagler, sister; Anita Slay Wade Colvin of Amarillo, TX. Pallbearers will be Mark Slay, Tom Nagler, Thomas Nagler, Steve Colvin, Donnie Taylor and Bobby Sharbono.
