Funeral services for Alvin L. Shipp, age 77 of Hebert, will be held at 2PM Thursday, October 8, 2009 from the Columbia Chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Bro. C.R. Martin officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethany Cemetery in Hebert. Visitation will be Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 2PM to 9PM. Alvin L. Shipp was born on October 26, 1931 in Richland Parish to the union of Alvin Lester Shipp and Bertha Duchesne Shipp. He passed from this life on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe following an extended illness. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired oilfield worker. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-daughter, Lucy Caldwell, seven brothers: Roy, Bob, Joe, C. H., Shelby, Floyd and Lloyd, and one sister, Lucy Russell. He is survived by two sons: Danny Emmons and wife, Wendy of Hebert, Jimmy Emmons and wife, Tammy of Hebert, step-son, John Parker and wife, Debbie of Hebert, step-daughter, Mildred Wallace of West Monroe, two sisters: Faye Harvey and husband, Jack of Hebert and Sherry Shipp Whitfield of MS and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Darrin Shipp, Roger Shipp, Darrell Shipp, Jonathan Mullenix, Rod Shipp and Marty Harvey. Honorary pallbearers include Jack Harvey, Otis Brown, Donnie Williams and Robert "Buster" Shipp.
