Memorial services for Edmond L. Richard, Jr., age 86 of Columbia will be held Saturday , April 7,2012 at 10:00am, in the Riser Funeral Home chapel in Columbia with the Rev. Cecil Gregory officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, April 6, at the funeral home. Mr. Richard was born in Boyce, LA on July 19, 1925 to the union of his parents Edmond Louis Richard, Sr. and Victoria Blacksher Richard, and died April 2, 2012 at his residence. He was retired from the Caldwell Parish School System where he was a classroom teacher, Principal of Columbia High School, Principal of Caldwell Parish High School, and Superintendent of Schools. He also taught in the Lasalle Parish School System for six years and one year at the Northeast Louisiana Vocational Center. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Columbia Masonic Lodge and the Order of The Eastern Star. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 1st Infantry Division in the European Theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery and two Purple Hearts for his service. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Juanita Richard, and son, Charles Richard. Mr. Richard is survived by his wife, Helen Mills Richard; son, Dan Richard and wife Susie, of Collierville, TN; and two grandchildren, Chris Richard and Alison Richard. In lieu of flowers any planned memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Columbia.
