Funeral services for Clarence Ansley "Little John" Meredith, Jr., age 93 of Grayson, LA will be held at 2 PM Saturday, February 23, 2013 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, LA with Bro. Larry Adkins and Bro. Danny Hawthorne officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery in Grayson, LA. Visitation will be Friday, February 22, 2013 from 5 PM to 9 PM at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia. Mr. Meredith was born on April 11, 1919 in Sikes, LA to the union of Clarence A. Meredith, Sr. and Julia Fluitt Meredith and passed from this life on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Haven Nursing Center in Columbia, LA. He was a retired logging truck driver and a member of Christians Sharing Christ Church in Clarks, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Guy Meredith, Big John Meredith, Samuel "Bugs" Meredith and Bud Meredith; sisters: Rubye Mae Johnston, Pearl Johnston, Mary Medaries and Essie "Snooks" Stilwell; sons-in-law: Shannon Laffoon and Jerry Dale Wyles. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Vertie Sanders Meredith; son, Jerry and Amanda Meredith; step-children: Linda and Jeff Shumaker, Shelia Laffoon, Larry and Chyrl Adkins, Gary "Red" and Grace Adkins and Jim and Angie Shirley; grandchildren: Cheryl and Mike Strange, Lyn and Tonyah Meredith, Carmen and Brian Head, Sloan and Nancy Wyles, April and Steven Black, Katie Laffoon and Gary Jones, Jordan Laffoon and Whitney Love, Danyelle and Kendall Ward, Larry Wayne and Mechelle Adkins, William and Lisa Adkins, Lee and Jan Adkins, Bob Adkins, Marcus Shirley, Bonnie Nugent, Elizabeth Bingham and Jamie Shirley; great-grandchildren: Katy Lee Strange, Ethan Meredith, Eli Head, Collin Wyles, Michael Black, Macie Black, Leah Ward, Aubrey Ward, Madison Adkins, Dylan Adkins, Gracie Adkins, Logan Adkins, Jake Adkins, Marcus "Bugs" Shirley; Baby "Black"; great-great-grandchild, Callie Jo Strange and his special Babies (his dogs): Poppie, Sophie and Max. Pallbearers will be Lyn Meredith, Sloan Wyles, Jordan Laffoon, Steven Black, William Adkins and Larry Wayne Adkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Meredith, Michael Black, Eli Head, Ethan Meredith and Collin Wyles. The family would like to give a special thank you to the following people for their love, support and care of Little John: Charles Meredith, Skipper and Linda Carter, caregiver, Jennifer Bass, Haven Nursing Center and First Choice Hospice.
