Joe was born April 18, 1956 in Bend Oregon, to the union of his parents, Walter Thompson and Mary Lou Mura Thompson and passed from this life unexpectedly on June 2, 2023. Joe was the Fire Chief for many years and was well known for his passion for the Fire Department. Not only did Joe help build and work on the Fire trucks, he was a board member of North East Fire Fighter Association, a LSFA Life member where he was President from 2019-2020, he was once a board member for LFCA, and he was inducted into the Louisiana Fire Chief's Hall of Fame in November 2020 by the First Responder Christian Association. Joe enjoyed getting the Fire Department fun days planned and making sure families had something pretty to watch in the sky. Joe loved his family and animals. Joe would get up every morning and get his dogs Rascal and BooBoo a biscuit. Joe loved camping, grilling, cooking briskets, and being grouchy when needed. Even as a young man Joe was building model trains, cars, and collecting Fire Trucks or anything to do with fire. Joe was usually outside doing something, whether it was hunting, talking to his friends, or splitting wood. Joe had his own sawmill where he split many trees.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Walter; and his sister, Bridget; and his father and mother-in-law, John and Catherine Tarver. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over forty-eight years, Mary Ann Thompson; his mother, Mary Lou Thompson; his daughters: Crystal Benson (Eric), and Leigh Ann Thompson (Cory Dotson); two brothers: Chris Thompson (Sarah) and Anders Thompson (Laura Ann); two sisters: Jennifer Meadows (Dennis), and Abby Thompson; grandchildren: Lynzee Benson and Eric D Benson; sister-in-law, Johnnie Fallin (Leslie); his spoiled dogs, Rascal and BooBoo and the rest of the crew; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be the Olla Fire Department and Honorary Pallbearers will be Louisiana State Fireman Association, LaSalle Parish Fire Department, Louisiana State Fire Marshall Office, and The North East Fire Fighters Association.
