Funeral services for Johnny Wilbur McGrew, of Grayson, LA will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 2, 2013 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, Louisiana with Rev. Tommy Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery in Grayson under the direction of Riser Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Funeral Home.
Johnny was born on March 20, 1935 in Columbia, Louisiana and passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on April 29, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.
Johnny is a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a retired Air Traffic Controller. Johnny enjoyed as pastimes hunting, fishing and golfing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Lena Head McGrew of Columbia, Louisiana and brother-in-law Billy Cy Frazier of Grayson, Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bonnie Frazier McGrew; sons: Johnny W. McGrew, Jr. of St. Cloud, Florida; Stephen Walter McGrew of Grayson, Louisiana; Granddaughter Celesta McGrew of Grayson, Louisiana; brother-in-law Bruce Frazier of Columbia, Louisiana; sister-in-law Cathy Frazier Herren of Grayson, Louisiana and sister-in-law Linda Hilburn Frazier of Grayson, Louisiana.
Pallbearers are Bob Frazier, Brian Frazier, Trey Frazier, Mike Estes, Lee Michael Estes and Ricky McGrew. Honorary pallbearers are William "Hoot" Reitzell, James T. Lee, Iley H. Evans, Harold May, and Ronald Carr.
Wilbur leaves behind many dear friends who provided much encouragement and comfort over the years. He was loved by many people and touched their lives by his kindness and loving spirit.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pankaj Shroff, Dr. Russ Cummmings, caregiver Donny Broadnax and the doctors and staff at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana.
