Riser Funeral Home Columbia, LA Funeral services for Mr. John Billy Hanchey, age 90 of Rayville, LA will be held 2 PM Friday, March 13, 2009 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Ted Freeland and Rev. Howard Childs officiating. Interment will follow in Columbia Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 1PM until time of service. Mr. Hanchey was born on January 26, 1919 at Kelly, LA to the union of John Hardy and Zelma Neathery Hanchey and departed this life on March 10, 2009 at his residence. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Rayville for 60 years. In 1944 he was called to serve in the U S Navy and was stationed in the South pacific for 5 years. After he was discharged he went into sales and remained there until his retirement. Survivors include his wife of 68 years: Josephine Meredith Hanchey of Rayville, one daughter: Meredith Mechele Beevers of Rayville, one Grandson: Tyler Mark Beevers and his wife: Donna Mechelle Beevers, two great-grandchildren: Christian Tyler Beevers and Shelby Karoline Beevers all of Brentwood, TN, one sister: Mary Ouida Carter of West Monroe, two nieces: Dianne Carter Mears of Downsville and Judith Carter McIntosh of West Monroe and one sister-in-law: Pauline Meredith Patton of Columbia. Pallbearers include Tyler Beevers, Richard Meredith, Jackie Fuller, Scott Meredith, Bob Meredith, Mark Meredith, Harvey Patton, and Meredith Patton.
