Joe William May Funeral services for Mr. Joe William May, 62, of Columbia, LA will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Columbia Heights Baptist Church in Columbia, LA with Pastor Toby Frost officiating. Interment will follow at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. Joe was born December 27, 1947 in Ruston, LA and passed away on March 8, 2010 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" May and Vela "Mazy" May. Joe was a graduate of Woodlawn High School of Shreveport, LA and had a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Business from Louisiana Tech University. He served his country in the US National Guard. Joe was employed at BellSouth for 20 years. He owned three convenience stores over an eight year period, and for the past 10 years was the co-owner of Equipment Parts and Supply with his wife, Karen. He served as a board member of MAPT. He was a member of Ward District 4&5 Water Board. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and president of the May Hunting Club for 35 years. Joe is survived by his wife Karen Neal May of Columbia; his two daughters: Amy May of West Monroe; Lea Ann May-Lillo and her husband Jason Lillo and his beloved grandsons Caden and Lawson Lillo of West Monroe; stepson Patrick Neal of Leesburg, VA. He is also survived by his friend and daughter's mother Betty Tyler May of West Monroe. His nephew, whom he loved as a son, Matthew May of Milledgeville, GA; his brother Craig May and wife Connie of Broaddus,TX; brother-in-law Kevin Ohliger of West Monroe and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Pallbearers will be Stan Mixon, Tad Hargis, Paul Hargis, David Smigura, Billy Green, David Earl Varnell, Joe Ostervich, and Jerry Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Hargis, Donny Earl Johnston, Greg Copeland, Everett May, Louis May, Clint May, Steve May, Jerry Bailey, Carl Bailey, Galen Head, Herman Lenard, Teddy May, John Lingenfelter, David Rocket and Rick Hawkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, 7200 DeSiard St., Monroe, LA 71203. Visitation will be Thursday, March 11th, 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Riser & Sons Funeral Home in Columbia, LA.
