James Carter

Graveside services for Mr. James A. Garfield Carter, age 88 of Grayson, will be held at 10 AM Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Sharon Cemetery in Sikes with Bobby King officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia from 5 PM to 8 PM. Mr. Carter was born on February 11, 1923 in Sikes, LA to the union of James Rufus and Feddie Thompson Carter and passed from this life on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at his residence. He served with the US Army during WWII. He retired from International Paper and enjoyed hunting and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and six sisters. Survivors include his wife of 62 years; Mildred George Carter of Grayson, two sons: James Marvin Carter and wife, Aleta of Bastrop and Charles Carter and wife, Patti of Rayville, daughter; Debra King and husband, Bobby of Minden, brother; T.L. Carter of Pointe, nine grandchildren: James Marvin Carter, Jr., Carrie Carter, Clara Anders, Robin Rayner, Krystal Lowery, Hannah Sirman, Charley Carter, Boyce Carter and Ethan Carter and ten great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Harry Whittington, Dwain Johnson, Boyce Carter, Marvin Carter, Jr., Robert Carter and Doug George, Jr.
