Jackie C. Barrett, Sr.

Funeral services for Jackie C. Barrett, Sr., age 86, of Columbia, will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Columbia First Baptist Church with Bro. Eric Harriman officiating. Interment will follow at Cross Roads in Grayson. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at the church. Services are under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia, LA. Jackie was born December 1, 1930 to the union of Ned and Nina Jones Barrett in Zama, MS and he passed from this life on February 1, 2017 at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Monroe. He served his country in the Army for 2 years. He was a member of Columbia First Baptist Church and Gideon's International. He was an educator for 30 years and was a Hall of Fame college basketball player at Mississippi Junior College. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Kathy Kepney; brother: Ned T. Barrett; in laws: Mr. and Mrs. B.E. Shumaker. He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Kay Barrett of Columbia, LA; son: Chuck Barrett and his wife Ruby of Grayson, LA; daughter: Tracy Basco and her husband Nathan of Columbia, LA; brother: Jerry Barrett of Ethel, MS; sister: Florence Jones of Kosciusko, MS; grandchildren: Joey McKeithen, Timothy McKeithen, Daniel Ellis, David Ellis, Patrick Barrett, Spencer Barrett, Kylie Beagan, Jessica Basco, Nathan Basco, and Alex Basco; 16 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Joey McKeithen, Timothy McKeithen, Daniel Ellis, David Ellis, Patrick Barrett, Spencer Barrett, Nathan Basco, and Alex Basco. Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas Scarborough, Max Johnson, Mac Robinson, and Bill Travis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideon's International or Columbia First Baptist Church building fund.
