Funeral services for Gwendolyn Mills Shipp, age 82 of the Woolen Lake Community, Hebert will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 19, 2021, from the sanctuary of the Hebert Full Gospel Church with Pastors Marvin Tabora and Jo Mills officiating. Private family interment will follow in the Boeuf River Worship Center Cemetery under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the Hebert Full Gospel Church.
Known as Ms. Gwen to everyone, she was born on September 27, 1938, at Dallas, Texas to the union of her beloved parents, Richard Paul Harrison and Jessie Ellen Sephtenburg Harrison and she passed from this life on September 17, 2021, at her residence following an extended illness. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, by her husbands: Durwood Mills and Buster Shipp, and her brother, Paul.
Gwen worked many years at Richland Parish Sheriff's Office as an elevator operator. She was a beloved mother and grandmother. Anyone that knew Ms. Gwen knew that she loved her big Sonic drinks. She lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, swinging on the front porch, going on car rides, and visiting with family. Gwen was loved and respected by so many people and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Judy Temple and husband Gene, Ricky Mills and wife Jo, Randy Mills and wife Dana, Linda Lowery and husband Terry, David Mills and wife Cheryl and Sherri Devore and husband Chris; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Brian Weston, James “Durwood” Mills, Jamie Lowery, Matt Mills, Lee Mills, and Clayton Mills. Honorary pallbearers include Matthew Wallner, Christopher Mills, and Jonathan Moseley.
