The family will have visitation on Friday prior to the service from noon until 2, at the funeral home.

Glenn was born in Harrisonburg, LA on August 9, 1936, to the union of his parents, Emile Leon Smith and Bertie Crawford Smith. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on August 27, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Glenn was raised in West Monroe, LA until he moved to Harrisonburg in his teens. After graduating from Harrisonburg High School, he moved to Winnsboro, LA where he met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Holmes Smith. They began raising their 4 children in Winnsboro before relocating the family to West Monroe where they lived until after their retirement. After they both retired, they raised quarter horses and traveled the country going to horse shows. When they weren’t showing horses, they were busy spending time with their 14 grandchildren. It was not unusual for them to have 4 to 8 of them at their house at one time. In their later years, they moved to Columbia due to Carolyn’s deteriorating health. Glenn was always an active member of every church he ever belonged to. He was a Sunday school teacher, RA leader, choir member, and deacon, serving as chairman for many years. Wherever he and Carolyn lived they always found a church home where they happily served in any capacity needed. He was currently a member of Columbia Heights Baptist Church. He loved his church family and enjoyed his Sunday school class immensely. Glenn was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, and camp with family and friends. He was a veteran having served in the US Army Reserves. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 56 years, Carolyn; his mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Henrietta Holmes; and his niece, Tracy Smith Perkins.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Randy Smith (Jan), Vicki Riser, Kenneth Smith (Debbie), and Cynthia Baird (Bruce); his brother, Roy Dale Smith (Reneé); his grandchildren: Brandon McGraw (Cortney), Ben Smith (Lynden), Mandee Brown (Charley), Caleb Smith (Jamie), Emilie Moseley (Philip), Jacob Smith (Jeri), Michael Smith, Allison Blanchard (Joe), Mary Katherine Cox (Bryton), Morgan Smith (Brittany), Ethan Smith (Abigail), Randi Smith, Ian Smith, and Megan Reitzell (Jay); 15 great-grandchildren; his son-in-law, who took such good care of him, Neil Riser; nephews, Todd Smith (Jessie) and Darren Smith (Claire); special friend, Helen Raley; as well as special neighbors, Katie and Jarrod McGuffee.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, staff, and rehab at Haven Nursing Center, Dr. Randy Head, and doctors, nurses, and staff at Citizens Medical Center. We could not have asked for any better care, more compassion or love to have been shown to our father.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Brandon McGraw, Ben Smith, Caleb Smith, Jacob Smith, Michael Smith, Morgan Smith, Ethan Smith, and Ian Smith. Honorary pallbearers are the men in his Sunday school class.
