Funeral services for Gerald Emmitt Rushing age 67 of Grayson, LA will be held 10am Monday May 27, 2013 from the sanctuary of Cross Roads Baptist Church at Grayson with Bro. Tommy Nelson and Bro. Shane Duke officiating. Interment will follow in the Cross Roads Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be on Sunday May 26, 2013 at the Cross Roads Baptist Church from 5 pm to 8 pm. Gerald Emmitt Rushing was born on May 13,1946 in Columbia to the union of his parents, Percy Alvin Rushing and Sarah Comilla (McClary) Rushing and passed from this life on Friday May 24, 2013 at the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia following an extended illness. Gerald served as a Caldwell Parish Deputy Sheriff for sixteen years. He was also owner of The Powder Keg in Grayson, owned and operated Rushing Dirt Contracting, a welder, certified scuba diver, airplane pilot, and he was often referred to as a jack of all trades. He also loved to hunt and a great love of his life was his grandchildren whom he loved to spend time with. Gerald was also a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and father and mother-in-law: Ruth and Kipe Hogg, his sister-in-law: Sue Bryan, and his brothers-in-law: Wayne Hogg and Landry Hogg. Survivors include: his wife, Sandra Hogg Rushing of Grayson; his son, Clint Rushing and wife Stacy of Lamesa, TX; his daughter: Jan Varnell and husband Donnie of Columbia; his grandchildren: Dakotah Rushing, Colter Rushing, Aaron Rushing, and Montana Blaze Rushing; Trevor Varnell and Ky Varnell; Remington Grasz and Kelsey Perry and Kara Perry; his sister: Janice Routon and husband Tommy of Clinton, LA ; and his brothers-in-law: Glenn Hogg and wife Janice, Gary Hogg and wife Carol, and Billy Hogg, and his sister-in-law: Johnnie Beatty. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and cousins. Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Dunn, Eugene Dunn, Glenn Lee, Waymon McClary, Arnold Parker, Buddy Ferrand, Jim Riser, Russell McClary, Ted Justice and Morris Wayne McClary. Honorary pallbearers will be J.V. Crain,Preston Strange, Dr. Larry Blackmon and Gary, Glenn and Billy Hogg. In lieu of flowers any planned memorials should be made to the Cross Roads Baptist Church or Cross Roads Cemetery at P.O. Box 397, Grayson, LA 71435.
