Funeral services for George W. McClanahan age 81 of Hebert will be held 2:00 Wednesday December 9, 2015 from the sanctuary of Bethany Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Rankin officiating. Bro. Boyd Tannehill will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday December 8, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
George Washington McClanahan was born on February 22, 1934 at Hebert, LA ; one of twelve children born to the union of his parents Ruben I. McClanahan and Annie J. Hall McClanahan, and he passed from this life on Sunday December 6, 2015 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia following an extended illness. George loved music and singing, a love that he passed on to his children. George was loved by everyone who knew him and he will be sorely missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Lois Goins and Laurabell Pardue; and two brothers: Charles McClanahan and Issac McClanahan; and his beloved granddaughter: Jennifer Stapleton.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his beloved wife: Linda Stephens McClanahan of Hebert, his children: Roger McClanahan, Sr (Olga); Terry McClanahan (Patsy) Mark McClanahan (Phyllis) , Karen Thompson ; Cindy Shipp (Sammy) and Kim Hatten; his grandchildren: Donna Gregory and husband Todd, Roger McClanahan, Jr and wife Angela, Nicole Townsend and husband Jared, Damien Walsworth, Samantha Simmons, Jessica and husband Wade Weisnor, Mark Timothy McClanahan, JR ; Jennifer Price and husband Elvis, and Terry Lee McClanahan and wife Morgan. He is also survived by his sisters: Edna Godwin of Columbia; Vera Woods of Monroe, Maxine Duchesne, Gwen Brown, and Marjorie Roberts all of Hebert; his brothers: Berlan McClanahan and Dan McClanahan both of Hebert; his great-grandchildren: Jonathan Gregory, Hannah Gregory, Lauren Gregory, Noah McClanahan, Gabe McClanahan, Issac McClanahan, Caleb McClanahan, Joshua McClanahan, Ara Bella McClanahan, Dakota Price, Robie Dans, Cameron Dans, Tresson McClanahan, Trevor South, Tye South, Marley McClanahan and Colton Wisenor.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roger McClanahan Sr, Roger Jr. McClanahan, Mark Timothy McClanahan, Mark McClanahan, Jonathan Gregory, and Noah McClanahan.
