George Harris

Funeral Services for George W. Harris Age 91 of Columbia will be held 11am Monday August 24,2009 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Nelson and Bro. Bob McIlwain officiating. Interment will follow in the Crossroads Cemetery at Grayson. George W. Harris was born on May 8, 1918 in Pope Co. Ark to the union of his parents Henry and Hattie Payne Harris , and he passed from this life on Sat. August 22, 2009 following an extended illness. Mr. Harris was a retired employee of the La. Dept. of Transportation and Development . He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Belle Snipe Harris and by his daughter Ruth Linton Tharpe. Survivors include: Sons: Carson Linton and his wife Olleal of Baker, Pirl Linton and wife Mackie Sue of Clarks, and Donnie Harris and wife LaDean of Baker. Son-in-law:Tommy "Cotton" Tharp of Monroe. Daughters: Barbara Ferrington and husband Carl of Grayson. Jean Dunn and husband Dennis of Columbia, Connie Smith and husband Jerry of West Monroe, and Hattie Strickland and husband Ronnie of Jefferson. Brother: Faye Harris of Woodward, OK He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
