Emma Jean Girod

Funeral Services for Emma Girod will be held 1:00 PM, November 21, 2024 at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, Louisiana with Bro. Larry Adkins officiating and Cody Mayo assisting with interment following at Old Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home.

Emma Jean Barnette Girod was born March 15, 1932 in Clarks, La to the union of her parents, Cleveland "Cleve" Barnette and Canary Tullos Barnette and passed peacefully from this life on November 18, 2024 at Haven Nursing Home.

Emma was a big hearted, devoted mother who loved her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for taking care of troubled children through the Foster Parent Program, while raising and adopting her own children at the same time. She loved cooking, and had a full spread of food on the table every day. Emma always made sure there was plenty for the neighbor hood children in Clarks. They knew where to go for love and laughter. Emma enjoyed family visits, quilting, painting ceramics, and watching The Little People on TLC. 

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Girod; son, Kenneth Scott Girod; daughter, D'Wan Girod Simmons; and a sister, Polly Hayes. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, David Girod (Kenda), Paul Girod, Guy Girod (Mimi), Severan Girod (Tesha); daughters, Jeannine McDonald, Kim Longabaugh (Darryl); niece, Sherri Evans (late husband Iley); nephew, Steve Doffitt (Frieda); grandchildren, John Pierre Girod,Brooke Girod, Schannel Smith (Bill), Stacey Thompson, Nikki Valley, Amy Joyce (Chris), Brittney Matthews (Rodney), Steffen Girod (Devan), Gunnar Girod (Alyssa), Samantha Gordon (Cameron), Garrison Steele, Devin Girod (Angelica), Destinee Mayo (Cody), Angel Mayo (Jordy), Micah Duchesne (Hannah), Anthony Duchesne, Brittney Lasalle (Tristan), Garet Longabaugh, Brandon Girod, Tiffany Girod, Christian Girod, Eva Girod, Lydia Girod, Asher Girod; as well as a host of great grandchildren; great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Pallbearers will include, Steve Doffitt, Matt Doffitt, Bill Smith, Hunter Demoss, Robert Strain, Jordy Mayo, and Micah Duchesne.
