Funeral services for Ed Parmer, age 82 of Clarks, will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Columbia Heights Baptist Church with Bro. Warren Maxwell officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery west of Columbia. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the church. Services are under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Ed was born May 17, 1932 to Clyde and Fossie Campbell Parmer in Monroe and he passed from this life on May 2, 2015 at his residence in Clarks. He served his country for four years in the Army. He was a member of Columbia Heights Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for over twenty years. He was a trustee and church clerk and held many positions for the church over the years. He was a Captain for the Monroe Fire Department and worked for them for 32 years. He umpired softball games for the city of Monroe for 22 years. He was very well known for his jokes. He was preceded in death by his two wives: Dorothy Moody Parmer and Merle Parmer; his parents; daughter, Susie Butler; and brother, Clyde Parmer. He is survived by his son: Dennis Parmer and wife, Connie; sister-in-law: Eva Cagle; 3 nieces: Bobbie Harvey, Elizabeth Watkins, and Diane Parmer; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Gaylon Head, Steve May, Vernon McMillon, Danny Arnold, Josh Aston, and Scott Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Waymond Calhoun, Gene Dupree, Art Nelson, Dusty Steele, Rick Duckett and Tim Burris. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home or Homeland Bank.
