Doyle Childress

Doyle Melvis Childress, 64 years of age, resident of Las Vegas, Nevada and native of Kelly, Louisiana, passed from this earth January 9, 2014 at the Houston Hospice Center in Houston, TX . He was born March 9, 1949 in Columbia, Louisiana to Melvis Doyle Childress and Floyce Roberts Childress. He is a graduate of Caldwell Parish High School. Doyle had a life long journey of many interests and occupations including years as a long haul truck driver; ;working with a rodeo stock producer; working in the construction industry; and the past twelve years, working as a pipeline inspector. As a family member stated, he lived his life in a way that most of us were too afraid to try. He loved people and his relationship with family and friends was primary in his life. He was a great cook and loved to feed all his friends and relatives. His other love was for horses. His retirement ambition was "to be somewhere where he could smell horse sweat." Doyle is survived by his wife, Lee Harden Childress of Las Vegas, NV; one daughter Lindsey Childress Davis and husband Grady Davis of Stillwater, OK; one grandchild to be, Baby Girl Davis; four sisters, Pat Minard of West Monroe, LA, Virginia Gough and husband, Ronnie Gough of Baton Rouge, LA, Linda Davis of Baton Rouge, LA , JoAn Childress of Kelly, LA and one brother Tony Childress and wife Dianne of Kelly, LA; step children Derril Black , Crystal Wade and Robbie Black of Ada, OK; a host of nieces and nephews and cousins; many, many friends from coast to coast; his comfort dog Zar and his horses Dobbin and 'Lil. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Floyce and Melvis Childress, Fraternal grandparents, Bob and Grace Childress; maternal grandparents John Nelson and Minnie Roberts, brother-in-law, Larry Minard, and two nephews, Mike Davis and Duncan Childress His wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Kelly Baptist Church, 3405 Highway 506 West, Kelly, Louisiana with Br. Russell McClary officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow at Maplehill Smokehouse, Highway 165 at Kelly, La. All family and friends are invited to participate in the celebration of his life.
