Funeral services for Dorothy Thompson, age 88, of Olla will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 9, 2016 from the Chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla, with Dr. Jay Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in the Olla Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:30 PM until service time. Dorothy Thompson was born on August 13, 1927 in Forest, LA to the union of Alice Frances Richey and Lynton Osborn Hester, and was raised by her mother and step-father, James Virgil Brown. She passed from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Forest Manor Nursing Home in Covington, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 52 years, Dr. Bryant Whitfield Thompson, Jr.; infant son, James Lynn Thompson; infant daughter; sister Frances Juanita Brown; and brothers, Lynton Osborn Hester, Jr. and James Virgil Brown, Jr. An active member of First Baptist Church of Olla, she also served as treasurer for the Olla Cemetery Board for 29 years, and was a member of Eastern Star and Hardtner Medical Center Auxillary. Family was her top priority, and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. She treasured her family and her friends. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Gary Copp of Madisonville, LA; son and daughter-in-law, Whit and Debbie Thompson of Tallulah, LA; granddaughters, Nikki Thompson of Galveston, TX and Kathryn Copp of Dallas, TX; and brothers, Ralph Brown of Pollock, LA and Charles Brown of Baytown, TX.
