Gayle Bassett Dortch

Funeral services for Gayle Bassett Dortch, age 76 of Columbia, will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 10, 2022, from the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home, Columbia with Bro. Pete McCarty officiating. Interment will follow at Fellowship Cemetery, Columbia. The family will host visitation on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at the funeral home from 5 PM until 8 PM.

Gayle  was born September 1, 1946, in Columbia, Louisiana to the union of her parents, Emril S. "Bud" Bassett and Carrie Dale Walters Bassett, and she passed from this life October 7, 2022, at Haven Nursing Center after an extended illness. After obtaining a college degree, Gayle trained and worked as an X-ray technician for many years. She always loved to travel and enjoyed shopping. She spent a great deal of her spare time either reading or working some type of word puzzle, keeping her mind sharp. Gayle loved people and always had a smile for everyone. Due to her sweet disposition she had a multitude of friends. She will be missed so much by family and friends alike. Gayle was preceded in death by her father; her beloved husband, Jimmy Dortch; and brothers: Robert Bassett, Mike Bassett, Larry Bassett, and Billy Bassett.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: James Dortch (Tishea), Amy Fletcher (Arthur), and Carla Dortch (Mike); her mother, Carrie Dale Grant; brother, Ricky Bassett (Kelly); sisters: Joyce Price (Jerry) and Mary Nell Thompson (Paul); three grandsons, five granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ray Braddock, Tracy Howell, Hunter Dortch, Dual Simmons, Randy Hatten, and Connor Stamper.
