Funeral services for Devoyd L. McDougald age 89 of Olla will be held 11:00 am Tuesday December 23, 2014 from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Olla with Rev. Milton Wilson and Rev. Johnny Phillips officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Olla Cemetery with services under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Visitation will be on Monday December 22, 2014 at the First Baptist Church from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
Devoyd Lee McDougald was born on September 6, 1925 in Smackover, Arkansas to the union of his parents Chester Lee McDougald and Gracie Scott McDougald. He passed from this life on December 21, 2014 at the Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. Mr. McDougald was a veteran of World War II having served in the Phillipines in the Quarter Master Corp. He owned and operated McDougald Pulp Wood, Inc. in Olla following in his fathers footsteps, and he in turn passed on to his son the family business which is still in operation today. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Olla where he served faithfully as deacon for over sixty years. He was also involved and very active in the Lay Witness Renewal Outreach Ministry. He was acknowledged by his church peers as a man who possessed wisdom in dealing with church affairs and was called on many times to share of his experience through the years. He served with the Kiwanis Club, the Olla Cemetery Board, and served as a town councilman for over thirty years, and had oppourtunity numerous times to serve as Mayor Protem. Devoyd's service to his country, his church, his family and his community were always evident in the life he lived. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Audrey Hulsey.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories, his wife of sixty seven and one half years: Lillie McDougald of Olla; two sons: Pat McDougald and wife Kitty of Urania and Mike McDougald of Shreveport; one brother: Jerry McDougald and wife Carol of Olla; his granddaughter: Stephanie and husband Skipper Peavy of Urania and his great-granddaughters: Madison and Abby Peavy.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Barnhill, Craig Parham, Rick Smotherman, Glen Henderson, Al Cassels and Lloyd Gough.
In lieu of flowers, any planned memorials may be made to The Gideons or Urania Cemetery.
