David George Erskine was born December 4, 1937, in Monroe, Louisiana to the union of his parents, George Eldridge “Buddy” Erskine and Juanita Yonge Erskine, and he passed from this life July 26, 2024, in Round Rock, Texas. He was raised in Columbia and graduated from Columbia High School. After high school he attended the Marion Military Institute and Northwestern State University. David enlisted in the army and served two years in the Army Criminal Investigation Division. After leaving the Army he worked at Angola where he won the prestigious State of Louisiana Outstanding Service Award for his more clear-cut and simplified way of classifying prisoners. His work in the Army and at Angola led to a desire to become an attorney. Once he was accepted into Loyola Law School, he moved to New Orleans, and worked full-time as a Probation and Parole Officer while earning his Juris Doctorate. After graduation, he moved back to Monroe and began working at McKinley Law before becoming a founding member of Dimos, Brown, and Erskine Law Firm. At one time he served as an assistant District Attorney of Caldwell Parish. While he spent most of his life outside of Caldwell Parish, he never forgot where he came from. He loved his home parish and was an expert on its history and many of the people and families that resided there. David enjoyed reading newspapers and magazines, always keeping up with what was going on in the world around him. He loved visiting with friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who was loved deeply by his family. David was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Reppond.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Ann Godfrey Erskine; sons, Dolph Erskine (Tanya) and Graves Erskine Sr. (Sherri); and grandchildren: Joshua, Owen, Luke, Graves Jr., Sawyer, and Asher Erskine.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Breard, S. J. Schlosman, Donald Brown, John Holladay, Rob Garner, Les Lecroix, Bo Hardy, and the members and families of the Original Duckpond Hunting Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Columbia Hill Cemetery, PO Box 1301, Columbia, LA 71418.
