David Wayne Banes

On March 28, 2022, David Wayne Banes, a son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away in the comfort of his own home in Urania, LA, at the age of 63. He was born on August 22, 1958, in San Francisco, CA to the union of his parents, James Carl Banes, Sr. and Carol Geeting.

As a longtime resident of LaSalle Parish, he will always be remembered for his friendly demeanor and his love for family, friends, and sports, but especially football. He really loved his home teams, the LSU Tigers,the New Orleans Saints, and the LaSalle Tigers. David enjoyed fishing, riding his bicycle, mowing yards for the elderly in the community, and working. He was the hardest worker you would ever meet. He worked at Ivy General Store for ten years, Urania Drug Store for thirty years, and the Ladd Center in Olla for 29 years before retiring from there. David was the sweetest person with a heart of gold. David was always willing to help anyone he could and would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. He brought joy to everyone around him. He will be missed so much. He was preceded in death by his father, James Carl Banes, Sr.; his mother who raised him and loved him like her own, Audrey Banes; and three brothers: James Carol Banes, James David Bailes, and George Bailes.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers, James Maverick Banes, Sr. (Jane) of Georgetown, LA, James Carl Banes, Jr. (Tammie) of Urania, LA, and Richard Calvin Banes (Linda) of Georgetown, LA; sister, Roberta Ann Carter (Dewey) of Olla, LA. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many many friends, and longtime caregiver, Melissa Banes.

Pallbearers are Jeffery Killian, J.C. Banes, Bo Banes, Jamie Banes, Cole Meredith, and Tony Weisskopf.

The Banes family will honor David's wishes to be cremated but will have visitation on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 1 PM until 8 PM at the Olla Chapel of Riser Funeral Home, 4823 Hwy 165, Olla, so friends and family can say goodbye.

A memorial service will be held at the LaSalle High School Football Field on Monday, April 4, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
