Mrs. Clovis Garner Johnson, 92, of Columbia, Louisiana was born November 16, 1931, and passed from this life on August 28, 2024.
Mrs. Johnson was the wife of the late Royce K. Johnson, with whom she raised their three children, Janis, Bobby, and Terry. She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in home economics and retired from the LSU Agricultural Extension office in Caldwell Parish in 1993 after 30 years of service. She dedicated her life to serving her community. She worked with countless area youths through the 4-H program for many years, served on the Art Festival board, and was a member of the Louisiana Association of Extension Home Economists. In addition, she assisted in the creation of the area Neighborhood Watch Program and worked to improve the town fire prevention system. She worked on the Martin Homeplace restoration project and helped design the kitchen, where classes were taught, and weekly meals were prepared and served. She loved leading tours, teaching adults and children alike about the ways of life in the late 1800s & early 1900s, at her beloved Martin Homeplace. She had a passion for cooking, sewing, gardening, and teaching anyone she could about any and every life skill.
Throughout her life she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Not only was she a fiercely independent, strong Christian woman, who was the cornerstone and matriarch of our family, but she was also a mother-figure to so many others in the community throughout the years. While most would say that she was a tough, ‘tell it like it is’ kind of woman, she always did so out of love and in an effort to teach valuable life lessons.
She is survived by her two sons Bobby Johnson and wife Donna, and Terry Johnson; her son-in-law Bubba Perry; grandchildren, Justin Perry and wife Tiffany, Jamie Perry and wife Jessica, Rebecca Carter and husband Brian, Dalton Johnson and wife Whitney; along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, O.L. and Tenna Garner, husband Royce K. Johnson, daughter Janis Perry, brother, O.L. Garner, Jr, and sister Mary Gaulden.
