Funeral serv ices for Charlotte L. McFadden age 72 of Columbia will be held 10am Tuesday June 12,2012 from the sanctuary of Columbia Heights Baptist Church in Columbia with Rev. Eddie Riley and Rev. Stewart Bedillion officiating. Interment will follow in the Rocky Springs Baptist Church Cemetery at Lisbon, LA under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be on Monday evening June 11 from 5pm to 8pm, at the funeral home located at 7131 U S Highway 165 in Columbia.
Charlotte Ann Lowrey McFadden born February 12, 1940 to the union of Barbara White and the late Dale Lowrey of Lisbon, La and passed from this life on June 9th 2012 at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia after a brave fight with cancer. She was proceeded in death by her grandparents Ben and Mary Louise White and Larkin and Ola Surmartha Lowrey all of Lisbon, Louisiana.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years Merton Elgin McFadden of Columbia, La., daughter Surmartha Maye Wallace and husband Jim of Columbia, La., son Michael Elgin McFadden and wife Sherri of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and daughter Cynthia Louise Simmons and husband Ron of Gautier, Miss., mother Barbara Lowrey Hussey, and sister Barbara Dale Dowling of West Monroe, La. Grandchildren Dale Brantley Wallace, Jaime Marie Wallace, Olivia Nicole McFadden, Sydney Claire McFadden, Emma Grace McFadden, Adam Simmons and wife Kandis, Tucker Simmons and great grandchildren Kensly Simmons and Luke Simmons, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Charlotte graduated from Bastrop High School and attended La. Tech University and graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a degree in Music Education.
She taught music in Caldwell Parish Schools for a year, directed music at Columbia Heights Baptist Church for many years and sang in area churches. She directed the puppet ministry at Columbia Heights Baptist for over 10 years. Her desire was to teach the Bible to women and children and she did so with a desire for all to grow in their walk with the Lord. She taught children in Sunday School and Bible School, directed Women's ministry, and taught adult women's Sunday School. She began a scripture scrapbook ministry at Banks Springs Baptist Church where she was a member. These books were distributed to hospitals, nursing homes, prisons, and as a special ministry to cancer patients.
Pallbearers will be Steven Hatten, Johnny Mac Jones, Joe McFadden, Bob Wallace, Dwight Rogers, Ryan Riley, Chris Bennett, and Ronnie Darden. Honorary pallbearers include David Johnson, Randy Hatten, Jerry Douglas, Bob McIlwain, Rector Hopgood and Ed Lindsey.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Shroff and the staff of Citizens Medical Center for their care during her illness.
