Charlie Elmer Sowell, age 85, died Friday December 7, 2012 at his residence in Winnsboro, following an extended illness. Graveside funeral services with full military honor's, will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, December 10, 2012 at the Old Bethel Cemetery in Clarks with the Bro. Jimmy Goodman officiating. Services are under direction of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, where visitation will be on Sunday December 9, 2012 from 5PM until 9PM. Charlie Elmer Sowell was born on February 12, 1927 in Grant Parish to the union of his parents, John Bradford Sowell and Betty Elizabeth Brown Sowell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Clovie Lee Sowell; his grandson, Jason N. Bass ; his brother Sebron R. Sowell, and his sister Ollie Mae Willey. Mr. Sowell was a U S Navy Veteran, having served both in World War II and the Korean Conflict, and retired as a police officer, having worked with numerous Law Enforcement Agencies in Louisiana. Survivors include, two daughters; Phyllis Sowell Cruse and husband Wayne of Winnsboro; and Pam Sowell Bass and husband Ivan of West Monroe; his sister-in-law, Joyce Sowell; and his grandchildren, Cindy Smith, Amber Parker, DeShay Sikes, Keegan Cruse, Shelley Wollerson, Paul Bass, Daniel Bass, Amanda Cagle, and Jessica McMichael. He also leaves fifteen great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Todd Parker, Keegan Cruse, James Wollerson, Paul Bass, Daniel Bass, and Rusty Sowell.
