Funeral services for Charles Barbo will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Riser Funeral Home in Olla, La. with interment following at Zion Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Riser Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Charles Lynn “Butterball” Barbo, age 76 passed away peacefully at his home on July 30, 2024, after an extended battle with dementia. Charles was born December 10, 1947, in Coushatta La to the union of his parents Charlie and Ruby Barbo.
He moved to Houma La at an early age with his family and graduated high school from Terrebonne High in 1968. He was an amateur boxer in high school and won the Golden Glove Boxer his senior year in high school. Two days after his high school graduation he boarded bus and was off to the Vietnam war. He was a proud veteran and talked about his service to our country and the good and bad times that he had during that time in his life. He served as the Point man for his division and received many medals including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
After his tour ended, he moved to Caldwell Parish and began his career in the oil field. He was promoted to tool pusher at an early age with Pool Offshore where he remained up to his retirement.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, son Chris Barbo, siblings Charlie Barbo Jr, Mickey Ray Barbo, Nolan Earl Barbo, Howard Barbo, Linda Rigdon, Nora Price and Carol Pitre.
He is survived by three sons, Steve Barbo (Rona), Gary Barbo (Gale) and Tommy Barbo (Sarah), sister, Clarine Canterbury (James), brother-in-law Charles Rigdon, sister-in-law Lillian Barbo, grandchildren Allen Barbo (Shelby), Kimber Rooney (Alan), Morgan Barbo (Bailey), Britton Barbo, Jewelly Skinner (Waddie), Tucker Barbo and Eli Barbo; great-grandchildren: Lauren, Wyatt, Anne-Marie, Ava Lynn, and expecting in September Sylvie Jane; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Morgan Barbo, Allen Barbo, Jeffrey Aycock, Jarrel Moe Brown, Jubal Jones, and Kirk Canterbury. Honorary pallbearers are B.B. Barbo, Joey Prudhomme, Mickey Brown, and Mike Landes.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Gale Barbo for the love and dedication she gave Butterball for so long.
