Funeral services for Carrie Dale Walters Bassett Grant, age 100 of Grayson, LA, will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, September 16, 2024, from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Shane Duke Officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Star Cemetery at Holum. The Grant Family will receive visitors on Sunday at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Carrie Dale Walters Bassett Grant was born October 30, 1923 in Pelahatchie, MS. to the union of the late Fountain Livingston Walters and Lona Mae Palmer. She passed from this life on September 12, 2024 at the Haven Nursing Home in Columbia, LA after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Emril S. "Bud" Bassett, husband Johnnie Sydney Grant, brother J.R. Walters, one sister, Awleen Walters, five children, Dorothy Gayle Bassett Dortch, Larry Don Bassett, Billy Lynn Bassett, John Michael Bassett and Robert Miley Bassett. She was also preceded in death by three step-children, Red Grant, Wanda Carolyn Grant Maxwell and Bobby Joe Grant.
Mrs. Grant spent her adult life in Holum, Louisiana where she was a loving wife and mother to eight children and four step-children. She retired from the Caldwell Parish School System as the first Lunch Room Manager of the Junior High School. She was also the first secretary to the Holum Water Board and was also secretary/bookkeeper of Little Star Cemetery. After retiring she and her second husband raised crops and livestock. She and her second husband, Johnnie, were featured many times on the KNOE Television show, Back Roads with Louis Redden.
She is survived by three children Joyce Price (Jerry), Mary Thompson (Paul), Ricky Bassett (Kelly) and one step-child, Maurice Grant. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Glen Grant all of Grayson, Louisiana and a special niece Loretta Bassett Lashley of Eustis, Florida. She was blessed with 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Along with her many friends and extended family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Bassett, Chris Bassett, Justin Bassett, Hunter Bassett, Elvis Wayne Price and Jason Price.
