Graveside services for Carolyn Bass Cornwell, age 60 of Columbia, will be 2 PM Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Good Hope Cemetery in Kelly with Bro. Richard Smith officiating and Kristi Dunn delivering the eulogy. Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2009 from 5PM to 9PM at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia and Saturday morning from 8AM to noon. Mrs. Cornwell was born on May 27, 1948 in Denver, CO to the union of Richard Carroll and Barbara Ann Hild Bass and passed from this life on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at her residence. Carolyn retired as a bus driver for Ouachita Parish School System after 25 years of dedicated service. She was currently serving her third term as a member of the Caldwell Parish School Board. She attended Burroughs United Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-mother, Georgia Lee Bass. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Glenn "Mickey" Cornwell of Columbia, father, Richard Bass and wife, Dorothy of Colfax, three sons; Garland Cornwell of Kerrville, TX, Lucas Cornwell and Everett Cornwell both of Columbia, daughter, Leann Williams and husband, Darren of Lafayette, four brothers; Richard Bass and wife, Janice of Clara, MS, Leland Bass of Pineville, Wayland Bass and wife, Mickie of Jena and Kenny Bass and wife, Nelda of LePanto, AR, two sisters; Susie Tate of Blanchard and Cherie Wilson and husband,, Darryl of Homer, four grandchildren; Michael Cornwell, Hali Williams, Dylan Williams and Ashley Cornwell, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends; Judy Coghlan, Shari Duke, Sweet Pea Braddock, Kristi Dunn and Jerri Powell. Special thanks to her friends at Shady Grove Elementary, the teachers, faculty/staff and bus drivers and her other co-workers in the Ouachita Parish School System. Also, thank you to the community of Ward 1 for your support of Carolyn throughout her years on the Caldwell Parish School Board. Pallbearers will be Herschel Volentine, John Garrett, CR Martin, Russell Flint, Mark May and Bubba Tucker. Honorary pallbearers are Jr. Shipp, David Boyd and Donnie Williams.
