Funeral services for Boncile Crews, age 89, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Joe Cruse, Bro. James King and Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Jena Cemetery.
Boncile was born April 1, 1925 to Herbert and Lydia Pierce Cooper. She passed from this life on August 20, 2014 at Avalon Nursing Home in Monroe.
She was a gifted teacher, spending her career at Enterprise High School. She was a great asset to the more than 40-year pastorate of her husband, Rev. Jack Crews, at New Ouachita Baptist Church as well as other churches earlier in his ministry. She was a great musician until near deafness took away these abilities early in her life. She also expressed her talents through wedding planning, floral design, creative cooking, and poetry writing. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother, Atha Williamson.
She is survived by her son: David Crews and his fiance Susan Crawford of Monterey; daughter: Dr. Hannah Clark and her husband Dr. D.H. Clark of Monroe; three grandchildren: Jennifer Clark Richardson and her husband Chad; Nicole Crews James and her husband Gary; Duane Crews and his wife Mandy; four great-grandchildren: Alex James, William James, Jack Crews, and Caroline Richardson; special friends: Patty Cruse and Delores Lindsey.
Pallbearers will be Deacons of the New Ouachita Baptist Church in Enterprise.
