Funeral services for Barbara Ann Nugent Thompson age 79 of Columbia will be held 2:00 PM Sunday May 23, 2021 from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Ryan Babin officiating. Interment will follow in the Hurricane Creek Cemetery near Jena. The Thompson Family will receive visitors on Saturday May 22, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM .



Barbara Nugent Thompson was born on November 3, 1941 in Columbia to the union of her beloved parents, Doyle Wade Nugent and Nellie Mae Ford Nugent and she passed from this life on Sunday May 16, 2021 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald Thompson , her daughter: Melissa Hyde and her brother: Carl Nugent. Barbara enjoyed the hobby of adult coloring and enjoyed embroidery. She loved sewing, period. It was evident that she possessed a greeen thumb because of the success she had with her plants. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. To know Barbara was to love her and she will be sorely missed by her beloved family.


Left to cherish her lifetime of memories are her son: Johnny Hyde (Kami Byrd) of Columbia and her daughter Lorie McGee (Gerald) Raceland, LA; two brothers: Danny Nugent of Columbia and Ken Nugent of Calhoun; two sisters: Cheryl Sanders of St. Amant and Brenda Fluitt of Columbia; thirteen grandchildren and twenty seven great-grandchildren.


Serving as pallbearers will be Courtney Hyde, Kody Hyde, Gus Hyde, Logan McGee, Evan Babin and Valor Babin. Honorary pallbearers include David Ivy and Issac Babin.
