Funeral services for Andrew Houston "Hoot" Douglas age 87 of Monroe will be held 10:00 am Wednesday August 21, 2013 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with the Rev. Jed Douglas and Rev. Terry Mimms officiating. Interment will follow at the Burroughs Garden of Memories Cemetery east of Columbia. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday evening, August 20 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home located at 7131 U S Highway 165, Columbia.
Andrew Houston Douglas was born on June 7, 1926 at Clarks, Louisiana to the union of his parents , Andrew Mosco Douglas and Sarah Florence Sherrod Douglas. He passed from this life on August 18, 2013 at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe following an extended illness.
Mr. Douglas served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and also served in the United States Coast Guard. He was a retired employee with the city of Monroe.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Maudine Brown Douglas of Monroe; his sons: Jed Douglas and wife Nancy of Ashville, North Carolina; Cameron Douglas and wife Vicki of Monroe; and Larry Douglas and life partner Dale Mertens of Slidell; his daughters: Peggy Barmore and husband Mikie of West Monroe; Debbie Dickerson and husband Wade of Monroe; and Stephanie Ragland and husband Dennis of Monroe; and thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Oliveaux, Bobby Oliveaux, Junior Oliveaux, Charles Duff, Jeff Lodgen, Michael Perkins, and James Earl Douglas.
