Alpherce Callender

Funeral services for Alpherce Callender, age 89 of Urania, will be 2PM Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from the sanctuary of Urania First Baptist Church in Urania with Bro. Jon McCartney and Rev. Huey Tarpley officiating. Interment will follow at New Union Cemetery in Tullos. Visitation will be Monday evening at the church from 5PM to 9PM. Mr. Callender was born on March 17, 1920 in urania to the union of Henry and Sarah Alice Cross Callender and passed from this life on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. He retired after 49 years as a truck driver with Urania Lumber Co. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Ethel Mae McNaughton Callender, infant daughter, grandchild; Christopher Lynn Callender and his 11 siblings. Survivors include two daughters; Katie Mills and husband, David of Trout, Wanda McCartney and husband, Roy of West Monroe, four sons; Dwight Callender and wife, Wadean of Winnfield, Tim Callender and wife, LaDonna of Kilburn, Don Callender and wife, Lynda of Glenmora and Roy Callender and wife, Penny of Farmerville, 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kevin Callender, Carl Mills, Chadwick Don Callender, Jeff Callender, Jacob McCartney, Huey Smith, Jr. and Dewayne Mitchell.
