Funeral services for Allie Gunn Sweet, age 90 of Grayson, will be held at 2 PM Saturday, March 15, 2014 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, LA with Bro. Jimmy Goodman officiating and Tommy Parker delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson, LA.
Visitation will be Friday evening, March 14, 2014 from 5 PM to 9 PM at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia.
Mrs. Sweet was born on July 14, 1923 in Sikes, LA to the union of Frank and Ruby Jones Gunn and passed from this life on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at LaSalle Nursing Home in Jena, LA. She was a member of Grayson Baptist Church. Mrs. Allie started the childcare food program for Caldwell Parish and several surrounding parishes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Deaumond Sweet; brothers: Robert Gunn, Albert Duncan "A.D." Gunn and Odell Gunn; sisters: Loyce Gunn Otwell and Vera Nell Gunn; son-in-law, Gary Prudhomme; daughter-in-law, Faye Bates and great-grandson, Elijah Bates.
Survivors include two sons: Charles Edward Bates and wife, Kellie of Greenwell Springs and Tillman Sweet of Grayson; two daughters:Betty Prudhomme and Ethel Sweet both of Grayson; grandchildren: Sherry May, Gary Bates, Amanda Hill, Sherry Helfrick, Bubba Flores, Josh Flores and Marion Deaumond "Tater" Tarver and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joe Carroll Bates, Tommy Parker, Stacy Coates, Glen Grant, Gary Watts and Tillman Sweet. Honorary pallbearers will be J.T. Thompson, Raymond Cruse, Buddy Nugent and David McKeithen.
